80 terrified children in danger of being killed: - It looks hopeless for them

There is little chance that the children will live at the Norwegian orphanage in Goma. - I am prepared for the worst, says Norwegian head of the orphanage.
The 80 orphanage children are in great danger. M23 militia invaded Goma on Tuesday morning and the kids are now completely cut off from the outside world. All major gateways into and out of the provincial capital is blocked, refugees will not get away.

The children who have been hiding in the small center of the city, are very likely to be killed. M23 militia is notorious for its atrocities.

Children are not allowed to escape and must be quiet as a mouse most of the day. They could hear the insurgents talking right outside the door.

- It looks hopeless, says Tommy Rasmussen
UN demanded today that the rebels must immediately withdraw from Goma and that they must lay down their weapons. Rasmussen was in contact with the UN peacekeeping force, which is in the country to protect civilians, and asked for help to evacuate the children safely. They promised to come.

But Rasmussen has lost faith in the UN can save them in time.

- There is no hope that the UN can save us out anymore.

Enough food for one day

The kids have one day left with food until it is empty. The shops in the area are empty and it can not get new supplies. It is only question of time how long the weakest kids can do. Some of the children have HIV and need for medication.

Rasmussen is a carpenter by trade, and was in Goma to work to build an orphanage in 2009. But when he went home again, he knew too well how much more was needed there.

He bought the land for the orphanage with his savings and started a New Chance.

- I have a strong bond with many of the kids. I have four kids, even here at home, but I have 80 kids down there. It is my responsibility to help them, says Rasmussen.
