Shackled and towed by police car in motion - died in custody
Amnesty reacts sharply after a taxi driver was chained to a police car and dragged along the road at speed. The man later died in police custody.
Several international media
including Sky News , has published mobile videos of the incident, in which a taxi driver from Mozambique is arrested by several police officers in the South African city of Daveyton. After gaining control of the 27 year old Mido Macia, he is wearing handcuffs and chained to the back of a police car.
The police car then puts speed, with the taxi driver behind. Two policemen doing a while an attempt to lift man up from the pavement, but allows for each roof.
Macia is dragged across the asphalt, while upset audiences chase.
AFP news agency quoted local media, who writes that 27-year-old was beaten by police after being accused of having parked the car's fault. The abuse allegedly still in police custody after his arrest.
27-year-old later died in police custody.

- We are investigating an incident involving a person's death, apparently while he was in police custody. We are shocked by the video footage has been made public, says Moses Dlamini of the independent investigation directorate for police matters.
- The circumstances surrounding his death are still marked by accusations. Let's find out what really happened, says Dlamini told AFP.
According to Dlamini has been reported that the taxi driver must have tried to disarm the police in advance of arrest. Photos from the event are one of the policemen with a open holsters.
The national police chief, Riah Phiyega, says she is "deeply concerned" over the incident.
- We see this event in a very serious light, and condemns this in the strongest, says Phiyega in a statement Thursday .
- Alarming and increasing
The incident, which allegedly took place on Tuesday, has created resurrection in South Africa.
The episode is the latest in a crisis that affects the police in the country. In August the police held accountable for that 34 miners were shot and killed in August last year. The police have recently been criticized for simply managing Pistorius case.
- This revolting incident involving excessive use of force, is the latest in a growing and disturbing pattern of brutal police behavior in South Africa, says Noel Kututwa, director of Amnesty International in the country.
