Is Russia Giving Up on Assad

Russia sending planes to Syria to deliver aid, pick up citizens
"Citizens of Russia, as well as CIS countries, who want to fly out of that country, will be able to leave Syria on the planes," she said. The planes carrying tents, power generators, furniture and 11 tonnes of food will fly to the port city of Latakia in northwestern Syria, emergencies ministry spokeswoman Irina Rossius said, according to Itar-Tass news agency. In January, the Kremlin sent two flights to evacuate 77 citizens from Syria, a signal that Russia may be preparing for the possibility of Assad's fall.

Time to refer Syrian war crimes to ICC, U.N. inquiry says

Del Ponte, who brought former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic to the ICC on war crimes charges, said the ICC prosecutor would need to deepen the investigation on Syria before an indictment could be prepared. Pinheiro, noting that the Security Council would have to refer Syria's case to the ICC, said: We are in very close dialogue with all the five permanent members and with all the members of the Security Council, but we don't have the key that will open the path to cooperation inside the Security Council.

'Sign of Distrust': Russia Moves Civilians Out of Syria
Several buses filled with Russian nationals were moved out of war-torn Syria and made it to Lebanon Tuesday. This is the first time Russia, one of the few allies to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, organized an evacuation for its citizens since the civil war began in March 2011. The Russian embassy in Damascus downplayed sending its citizens to Lebanon, saying it was not an evacuation.
