He was behind and planned the terrorist attack on the gas pipeline-system in Amenas in mid-January . 38 employees were killed in the attack.
29 members of Belmokhtars group also lost their lives in hostage action, according to the Algerian authorities .
Can extend the drone attacks
Mokhtar Belmokhtar, was formerly part of the AQIM network, which stands for "Al Qaeda In Maghreb." Maghreb is a term for the countries of Western Sahara, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, and to some extent Libya and Mauritania.
If Belmokhtar is set on killing list, it means that the U.S. can expand activity in North Africa with drone attacks and less military operations.
There will be military members of the administration and the intelligence people pushing to get Belmokhtar on the list. Previously it has been reported that the United States has already begun to hunt Belmokhtar with drones.
Secret list
U.S. authorities have since 11 September 2001 had a secret list of people to be taken "dead or alive". Pentagon and CIA have their own lists of people they want to 'take out' so to speak.
Belmokhtar has been behind a number of hostage situations in the past ten years, and he leads a large and well-organized smuggling network in which southern Algeria, Mali and several other countries in the Western Sahara around. This he has earned huge sums of money.
He is wanted in many North African countries for hostage taking and murder of a number of western nationals. In the aftermath of the attack on Amenas the wanted terrorist leader, called "The One-eyed", posted a video where he warned that there were more attacks against Western interests in the region.
