Dramatic Amateur Footage Air STrikes in Syria
Amateur video posted on the internet on Saturday (February 16) purports to show ongoing fighting in the Syrian provinces of Aleppo, to the north and Damascus a day after the UN food agency WFP said an estimated 40,000 people fled the eastern town of al Shaddadeh, near Hasakah, 324 km from Aleppo. The first three videos show a jet plane flying above what the website says is the Kuairis airport in Aleppo, then smoke rising from could have been an airstrike and rebels firing an anti aircraft missile in the air. In Damascus province, heavy smoke is seen rising on the horizon with another video showing a building on fire in the same Jobar area. None of the video can be independently verified. The UK-based Syrian Human Rights Observatory said on Saturday that Damascus and Deraa were plunged in darkness on Saturday night possibly because of damage to high voltage lines following fighting there.
