Carnivale Float Fire Kills Four
Four killed in fire at Carnival in Brazil
The accident occurred in the port city of Santos, in the southeastern state of Sao Paulo early Tuesday morning.
The parade was on its way through the streets of the city, when one of the barges struck down some power wires shorted and caught fire.
Cancelling carnival
Three people were on board the fleet perished in the fire. Also was lost a spectator who was standing on the sidewalk life.
Nine people were injured in the accident.
Authorities in Santos Tuesday decided to cancel the rest of the year's carnival because of the accident.
- This is a tragedy for our city. We can not go on parade with the mood that now. This is a deeply unhappy, says the mayor of Santos Paulo Alexandre Barbosa to the BBC .
Took power
According to BBC accident also led to the power outage in thousands of homes around the city.
The fleet was involved in the accident belonged samba school Sangue Jovem, consisting mostly of fans of the local football club.
The school's float was designed as a tribute to Brazilian football Pele, who played for the club from the 1950's to the early 70's.
Several children sat on the float during the start of the parade, but they had gone by before the accident occurred.
