At least 47 killed in bomb attack in Pakistan
The attack took place in Hazara, a Shiite neighborhood in the outskirts of the provincial capital Quetta, Balochistan.
- It was a sectarian attack, Shiites were the target, said police spokesman Wazir Khan Nasir in Quetta.
Al Jazeera reports that at least 47 Shia Muslims are killed and 200 are injured in bomb attack.
According to Reuters, police sources said that 47 were killed in the attack, and 130 are injured.
Sectarian conflict
According to local authorities, there were women and children among those killed. Many people have been hurt.
Balochistan bordering Afghanistan and Iran, and it is believed that the Taliban and other militant groups are located in the city.
There's been a lot of violence in what is called a sectarian conflict between Pakistan's Sunni Muslim majority and the minority of Shiites.
Asked for protection earlier this year
About one-fifth of the country's 180 million inhabitants are Shiites.
In January, 92 people were killed in the worst attack in the conflict, and the militant group Lashkar a-Jhangvi claimed responsibility.
Earlier this year demanded Shiite leaders in the country that the military be deployed in Quetta to protect the minority population.
