At least 52 killed in explosions in Syria
At least 52 people were killed when two explosions hit Tuesday the University of Aleppo in Syria, according to activist group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The group says the death toll is based on reports from doctors and students.
AFP spoke earlier today with the regional governor of Aleppo. He claimed the death toll was far higher.

- So far there are 82 dead and over 160 injured after terrorists attacked the university. The students had their first examination that goal, says Governor Mohammad Wahid Akkad.

Owe to each other
Syrian authorities claim that insurgents were behind the attack on Tuesday. A source in the Syrian military told AFP that rockets fired by rebels who ended astray and hit university.

Activists claimed however that rockets fired from the government's own aircraft is behind the explosions.

Exile group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in London confirmed that the university in the city, which is Syria's second largest, is hit by a bomb attack, but can not disclose who was behind the explosion or provide other details.

30,000 on campus
The campus is located in a part of Aleppo controlled by government forces. Fighting between government forces and rebels for control of the city have stalled.

Students put the video on the Internet after the attack. The pictures show the survivors in panic hiding inside the buildings on campus.

In addition students are over 30,000 people on campus. These have sought refuge there from areas in Aleppo who are hard hit by fighting between government troops and rebels.
