Over 40 dead in landslides in China
At least 42 people have died and others are trapped after a landslide in southwest China.
Exceeded went Friday in Zhenxiong region of Yunnan province, said in a statement that authorities were quoted by the official news agency Xinhua.
Aid workers had until Friday morning Norwegian time only managed to dig up two survivors from Earth masses.
Among the fatalities are seven members of one family, according to Chinese media.
Landslide was 300 meters long, 80 meters wide and 30 meters deep, according to news agency AFP.
- Soil landslide has buried all the houses here, says Sun Anfa, a local rescue worker.
Yunnan province bordering Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, is a relatively poor area in China and the houses are primitive.
In October last year, 18 children lost their lives in an avalanche in a neighboring region to Zhenxiong.
