Suicide Attacks on base in Afghanistan
A local police officer who stopped the driver at the gate to Camp Chapman in Khost city, was killed when the car bomb exploded. Two civilians also lost their lives in suicide attack, according to news agency AP, in addition to the attacker himself.
Seven people have been injured in the blast.
Taliban say they are behind
Insurgents in Taliban guerrillas say they are behind the attack, according to Reuters.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the attack was aimed at Afghan police guarding the entrance to the military camp and Afghans working for the Americans in the camp.
The Camp Chapman and Camp Salerno, which is close by, has repeatedly been a target for attacks, but the number has dropped significantly in recent months, writes AP.
Khost is located in one of the most troubled parts of Afghanistan, near the border with the semi-autonomous Pakistani tribal areas.
Many attacks
Over eleven years after the invasion of Afghanistan, there are around 100,000 foreign troops in the country today. About 66,000 of these are American.
NATO has ISAF aims to train 350,000 Afghan policemen and soldiers, so that they can take over responsibility for security in the country when all foreign combat forces scheduled to leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014.
Two days ago, shot and killed an Afghan policewoman an American counselor at the police headquarters in Kabul.
There have been many attacks against foreign troops and police in Afghanistan in recent years. Many of the attacks are done by infiltrators from the Taliban.
