Adam Lanza (20) was equipped with many high capacity magazines when he came to the school would become the site of one of the worst school massacre in U.S. history.

Police said at a news conference this evening Norwegian time that the offender carried a semiautomatic rifle marked Bushmaster along with two handguns onto school Sandy Hook.

The weapons had several magazines, and the perpetrator brought significant extra ammunition.

Police found a fourth weapon, a shotgun, the perpetrator's car, which was parked outside the school.

Lanza killed 26 people at the school, 20 of whom were children, all 6 or 7 years old. Then he took his own life.

Police could tonight not disclose that he ended the massacre by taking his own life as police broke into the school, or whether it happened before that.

Confirming that his mother was killed

The police also confirmed that the perpetrator's mother, Nancy Lanza, was killed in the home she shared with her son.

- We can confirm identity. She died of multiple gunshot wounds, and she was killed, said Vance.

The perpetrator killed his mother before he went to Sandy Hook, where she worked as a regular teacher. Weapons he used in the massacre, was legally registered to his mother.
