North Korea could reach targets in the United States
A spokesman for South Korea's defense ministry said on Sunday that the missiles that North Korea can now build, probably has a range of over 10,000 kilometers.
North Korea fired 12 December a weather satellite into orbit around the Earth. But observers say the real aim was to test missile technology that can fire a nuclear warhead to the United States.
- As a result of analysis of the material in the rocket, we assess that North Korea can make a range of over 10,000 km if the explosives are of 500-600 pounds, said a representative for South Korea's defense ministry.
The United Nations has banned North Korea to test such missiles and other nuclear technology by decision of the Security Council. The UN has also adopted sanctions against the country because the government of North Korea violates Security Council resolutions.
