Brief  - Witnesses told the French Air Force, they heard an explosion and saw smoke coming from the A320 airliner Germanwings, shortly before it crashed in mountains near Digne could reveal IBTimes UK.

A helicopter pilot in the French Air Force based in Orange, 30 minutes from the crash site, told IBTimes UK that witnesses in the investigation into the accident said, "  that they heard an explosion and saw smoke  . "

While the French authorities have not confirmed this assessment, the pilot says the French Air Force has received a number of statements corroborating evidence.

The pilot also confirmed that the debris was found upstream of the accident - which, he says, confirms the fact that a piece of fuselage had " been separated from the aircraft before impact . "
