USA dropped bombs on the Great Barrier Reef
The four bombs were dropped during a military exercise last Tuesday, 16th July.
They were released in the protected area of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It is about four 250-pound bombs. Two of the bombs should be without explosives, while the other two bombs by the U.S. Army to be unreinforced.
Two fighters central AV-8B Harrier was released bombs as part of an exercise, but unclear reasons, civil vessels inside the practice area.
- In the area where it was allowed to drop bombs, so it was not safe. There were civilian vessels just below them, says the commander of the U.S. Navy, William Marks, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
Relax bombings in nature reserveInstead of dropping bombs over the agreed exercise area, selected pilots to drop bombs inside the protected area of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
- The priority dropping them where they would do the least damage, and I think we did, by dropping them on 50-60 meters deep in a place where they are not a hazard to shipping or navigation, says Commander William Marks.
He said the release of the bombs were coordinated with Australian authorities.
