Animal control worker Michelle Smith received a call about a barking dog somewhere behind a Home Depot. Ms.Smith climbed down a steep embankment only to find a Shih-Tzu, all caught-up in a mess of briars. But when she looked more closely, she realized Goldie had a helpless little friend: a tiny kitten who was nursing at the brave doggy's side.

Smith told Fox News 10. “I was shocked and surprised and then of course, awww.”

“I think the dog could walk down the hill,” Smith told Fox Carolina. “But it just didn’t want to have to leave the kitten”

The brave dog and tiny kitten were taken to the Anderson County P.A.W.S. shelter, and they remain inseparable with the Shih-tzu not giving up on his 'mission' to care for the kitten as one of her own. Eventually, the two little creatures were taken to a foster home – together--friends for life no doubt.
