Syria and Iran threaten to attack Israel

If this information is correct, it would be a gross violation of the UN Charter, says the Russian Foreign Ministry, pointing out that Syria's sovereignty in this case is violated by Israel.

The Syrian army said Israeli jets attacked Research-station northwest of Damascus, but simultaneously rejected reports that an arms transfer was bombed at the border with Lebanon. The weapons were said by Israel to be on the way to Hezbollah guerrillas. 

Two people were killed and five wounded in the attack in Damascus, according to Syrian authorities.

- This would have serious consequences for the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, said Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahin to the Iranian news agency Fars, according to AP.

Also, Syrian authorities have stated that they will consider a response to the Israeli attack.

Israeli fears

Israel has not commented on the reports, but makes it clear that any shipment of arms to Hezbollah would be crossing a red line. 

Israel fears that sophisticated, heavy weapons, including anti-aircraft guns, or chemical weapons were trying to be sent from Syria to Hezbollah. 

Hezbollah was among those Thursday condemned the attack and called it an attempt on Israel to destroy Syria. 

The Arab League called the attack a clear aggression and a blatant violation of an Arab state sovereignty.
