Armed police evacuated the church of St. Rose of Lima in Newtown after receiving a threat, according to NBC.
The evacuation took place during a morning Mass in the church on Sunday, where many had gathered to commemorate the victims of the shooting massacre that took place in the same city on Friday.

Several armed police officers with bulletproof vests from the state police in Connecticut also took into a house next to the church, according to NBC .

Police confirmed that they received a telephone threat and therefore chose to evacuate immediately. The evacuation should now be over. It is unclear what was the content of the threat.

The church is located just one mile from the school where 20 children and six adults were killed Friday.
Witnesses said police broke into the nooks and asked everyone to leave the building immediately. Police and ambulances were quickly sent to the site, witnesses said.
